Are you ready for the Great Northern Yarn Haul?
Have you heard about the Great Northern Yarn Haul? It's a fun, self-guided tour for knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers and fiber artists of all kinds. Normally the Yarn Haul involves traveling around northern New England to visit local yarn shops in person. This year things may look a little different, but it will still be lots of fun!
Here's how it works:
You choose a shop where you'd like to start your Haul. (I'll humbly suggest that starting at Green Mountain Yarn & Fiber would be an excellent choice!) Pick up a passport and your commemorative enamel Yarn Haul pin. Visit as many shops as you can, between July 17 and August 2. As you visit each shop, you'll get a passport stamp and add your name to a participant list. You can track your progress on the Facebook page or Ravelry group. At the end of the Haul (and by August 8) email or mail your completed passport to the organizer at Must Love Yarn. Depending on how many shops you're able to visit, you will be entered to win prizes!
No purchases are necessary to participate. For any purchase over $20, you will receive a free Great Northern Yarn Haul pin. (Limit is one pin per customer) Each shop has a limited quantity of these pins, so I recommend starting your Haul early if you'd like to get one.
The enamel pins are available for $6 for anyone who would like to buy one without making a $20 qualifying purchase, while supplies last.
The prize structure is as follows: All prizes are drawn randomly from eligible contenders. One prize per entry, one entry per participant.
One Grand Prize Winner - randomly drawn from the pool of participants who visit at least 15 stores. Prize value is approximately $275.
Two First Runners Up - randomly drawn from the pool of participants who visit at least 12 stores. Prize value is approximately $50.
Two Second Runners Up - randomly drawn from the pool of participants who visit at least 8 stores. Prize value is approximately $25.
One Random Draw: randomly drawn from pool of participants remaining after other prizes have been drawn. Prize value is approximately $25.
Additionally, some shops will have sales or specials just for Yarn Haul participants.
You may be wondering - how can we do a Yarn Haul during the pandemic? Well, you can visit shops in your home area in person, of course. Most shops are operating and many or all have curbside service for those who don't wish to enter the store. Almost all of the shops have an online presence, so you can participate through qualifying purchases online. When you participate online, the shop will send you some version of a stamp for your passport - a sticker, business card, or some other store identifying item will be provided to you. It is your responsibility to contact shops (check their websites, etc.) to find out about their open hours and guidelines for shopping in person. Every shop is different! Please be sure to review any state quarantine or access requirements before you travel, so that the Great Northern Yarn Haul is safe for everyone.
I'm really looking forward to this fun yearly event, and so happy Green Mountain Yarn & Fiber can be open to participate. I hope to see you soon!
