Lesser Known Fiber Arts – Viking Arts
Saturday, January 12, 1 PM to 3 PM Come explore a variety of fiber arts from the Viking Age. Watch a demonstration and try your hand at tablet weaving (card weaving). A technique where tablets are used to create the shed through which the weft is passed. This method is used most often to produce belts, straps, and trim. We will also learn lucet cord braiding, which uses a series of loop like knots to form a braid. The third technique we will learn is Viking whipcording and uses four strands of yarn on bobbins to weave a braid quickly.
Learn to Crochet
Thursday, January 17, 3:30 PM to 5 PM Join Mary to learn how to crochet! This class is for complete newbies to crocheting. Participants will begin a simple crochet project in the class to learn basic stitches, terminology, and pattern reading. Participants will receive 10% off supplies purchased the day of the class. Preregistration is required.
Learn to Spin – Drop Spindle
Saturday, January 19 1-3 PM Join Marilyn Brandner, of Mount Nickwackett Sheep Farm, to learn how to spin your own yarn on a drop spindle. Cost includes fiber to use during the class plus a locally-made drop spindle from Green Mountain Spinning Wheels in Brandon to take home. Preregistration is required.
Knitting Workshop – Color Work
Sunday, January 20 1-3 PM Join Nancy Livak to deepen your knitting skills as you learn Fair Isle knitting. Supplies needed: yarn of your choice and knitting needles of the appropriate gauge for that yarn.
Learn to Knit
Tuesday, January 22, 6 PM to 7:3- PM Join Stephanie to learn to create with two sticks and some string! This class is for complete newbies to knitting. Participants will learn to cast on, knit and purl, as well as garter stitch, stockinette stitch, and ribbing as time allows. Participants are also welcome to bring a basic pattern to begin during the class. Participants will receive 10% off supplies purchased the day of the class. Preregistration is required.
Color Theory for Fiber Artists
Saturday, January 26, 2 PM to 4 PM This workshop will look at ways to understand and use color in fiber art. We will explore the basic vocabulary of color, how colors relate to each other, how they influence each other, and how to predict their effects when you combine them.
Needle Felting – Penguins
Sunday, January 27, 1 PM to 3 PM Join Brittany Charles to learn the art of needlefelting as you create a small project. Fee includes all materials. Participants will receive 10% off supplies purchased the day of the class.
