Join Elissa Cobb for a series of 5 classes for all knitters who would like to improve their skills while reducing the overwhelm. Each session will be a 2 1/2 hour tutorial where students will learn new stitch patterns, skills, and techniques, each one resulting in two afghan squares. The skills taught in the class will include: finding your favorite gauge, selecting colorways, following a graph, learning how to trust a pattern and your own instincts, cables, baubles, working a square in the round and from the inside to the outside, many different stitch configurations within a single row, designing your own square, crochet seaming and edging, getting okay with making mistakes, discovering the okay-ness of undoing and starting over. Patterns will be provided for the squares. Each session will include 1 very complex and 1 very easy square. At the end of the course, students will also learn to design their own pattern. During the final session, students will learn to seam the squares and create a border. This is a great way to gain confidence with intricate patterns and charts without being overwhelmed by a large project. You will come away with a completed lap afghan! We suggest Lanas or Galway for the the project, but any smooth worsted weight yarn will work as long as all of the yarn used is of the same fiber content. The dates for this series are: February 21st, March 7th, March 28th, April 25th, and May 2nd. There is a minimum of 2 participants to run this class series, so consider registering with a friend or two!
