This workshop with Catrina MacKenzie will introduce you to working in-the-round in Tunisian crochet. Two contrasting colors of Aran weight yarn will be used to create fingerless mitts. The colorwork technique taught in this workshop was developed by Lily Chin where the colorwork pattern is created by changing stitches to draw the forward or return pass colors to the front, resulting in no floats on the ‘wrong’ side. Participants will learn two Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian knit stitch and Tunisian reverse stitch, as well as how to create the foundation row and how to cast-off. The pattern for the mitts is included in the workshop and guidelines for creating your own colorwork patterns will be discussed. The fee for the class includes the pattern and double-ended Tunisian crochet hook. Participants will also need 60 yards of Aran weight yarn in each of 2 contrasting colors and a crochet style stitch marker to mark start of round (the type that look like a safety pin). Preregistration is required. Please note, we need a minimum of 2 students to run the class, so consider registering with a friend; there is a maximum of 8 participants.
Catrina MacKenzie designs Tunisian, Celtic, and Standard Crochet accessories, including shawls, cowls, and her favorite, fingerless mitts. Her patterns and eBooks are available on Ravelry. Combining colors and developing color work patterns is her passion, specially creating reversible, no-float designs using Tunisian crochet in-the-round. Many of her designs are inspired by the Scottish Highlands, and she has been designing for Outlander fan groups on Facebook for the last five years.
